Dhamek Stupa at Saranath
Dhamek Stupa, 128 feet tall, at Saranath near Varanasi is an inimitable construction of the Gupta time.
Spire of the Stupa was 400 feet tall
Kanishka was a Buddhist. He built many Stupas. The Stupa that he built at `Purushapura’ had thirteen floors. Spire of the Stupa was 400 feet tall. This was considered a wonder those days. He wrote `Buddha Charita’ an epic written in Sanskrit centred around Lord Buddha’s life. He conducted a Buddhist conference in Kashmir. 
 
World famous Buddhist temple at Barabudur 
 
Buddhism crossed Indian borders and spread in Afghanistan, Tibet, Mongolia, China, Korea and Japan. Sri Lanka embraced Buddhism. The tallest idol of Buddhism. The tallest idol of Buddha was in Bamian in Afghanistan. Java has big Buddhist temple at Barabudur with is World famous.
The caves were made on the orders of kings and queens, merchants and farmers. These caves were located near passes through the Western Ghats.

Karla is one of the famous Buddhist rock – Cut caves in India.
Theravada Buddhism, an important and older form of Buddhism, was more popular in Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand and other other parts of South – East Asia.
Paintings
Wall paintings at Ajanta.
Buddhist Viharas and Chaityas of Gupta times carved into the big rocks are found in Ajanta and Ellora.
The pictures painted on the walls and ceilings of the caves are famous all over the world. These paintings include life situation, instances of the Buddha’s life and sequences from Jataka.
